About Me

I’ve been in law enforcement since 1976. I’ve worked dispatch, jail, road, courts, and investigations. My first job was at Charlton County Sheriff’s Office, followed by the Folkston P.D. I then went to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office for three years, earned a B.S. in C.J. for Georgia Southern. I went to the GBI and worked in the Americus and Douglas field offices and Savannah Drug Office, finishing up 15 years at the Kingsland Office. I went back the Camden County Sheriff’s for four years and finished my MPA from Georgia Southern. I worked at the District Attorney’s Office in Brunswick and now have my J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law. I am currently the Lead Criminal Justice Instructor for Altamaha Technical College and am based at the Golden Isles Career Academy in Brunswick. Background: My family came to Georgia with a couple of others from the border area of North Carolina-Virginia prior to the Revolution. The Harrell part is from England, but the Buie [a sept of Donald] (my grandmother) originated in the western isles of Scotland, and the Drury bit (also grandparents) was Scot-Irish.

About Me

Law enforcement runs deep in my family. My great uncle was a Secret Service member assigned to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1932 and worked for him from 1932 until FDR's death in 1945.

My maternal cousin, Bill Albertson, was a Houston, Texas police officer and later a Los Angeles police officer. He passed away in the 1980's from cancer.

My paternal cousin, David Street, recently retired as a Major withe Maryland State Police. He is now practicing law. Both of us went to law school together in the mid to late 70's.

My son is a Sergeant with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

I served as a Detective in the Washington, DC area 1972-1977.

After a career as a lawyer and judge, I have returned to police work. I currently serve with the Tybee Island Police Department. I have served with the CCSO Reserve unit.
